Why I Love Restorative Yoga
Restorative is one of my favorite types of yoga – the perfect complement to a well rounded practice! Enjoy Anh Chi’s blog below…
Most of us can get out adrenaline pumping in no time, but do we know how to relax? One of the best ways to build out ‘relaxation muscle’ is by incorporating a regular restorative yoga practice.
Restorative yoga is all about relaxation. It’s the yoga equivalent of getting to eat only dessert for dinner since we forgo the vigorous standing poses and stretches and get right into the sweet stuff: gentle stretches, down-regulating breathing, and lots of blankets, bolsters, and in the case of our Sunday Candle Light Restorative class, balls.
(I also include some self-massage work with the Yoga Tune Up® Therapy Balls as a tool to quickly and effectively unwind locked-up tissues.)
However, any restorative class will be effective in teaching us to let go, and to soften the habitual patterns of mental and physical gripping. Grrr.
Some of the documented benefits of deep relaxation include lower blood pressure and blood sugars, an increase in good cholesterol levels, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination, and the reduction of muscle tension, insomnia and fatigue.
Come experience this state of total mental and physical well-being and ease every Thursday and Sunday for yourself. It’s a crucial part of maintaining your health!
